Budget 2024 and the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)

The recent budget may affect the LGPS due to a change in inheritance tax rules.

Currently LGPS Death Grants are out of scope for inheritance tax however due to changes proposed, they could form part of the member’s estate from April 2027.

This could result in inheritance tax being payable on the Death Grant in cases where the value of the estate exceeds the threshold.

Information will be announced following the consultation.
