Officers from across the council will be there alongside police Safer Neighbourhood Teams and NHS NEL to raise awareness of this important issue locally.

Everyone can help to identify and reduce the amount of modern slavery in the borough by being aware of the signs that someone might be a victim of modern slavery.

  • Having unexplained gifts, clothing, money or new / additional phones
  • Living in poor conditions eg dirty or overcrowded
  • A change in their physical appearance (malnourished, unkempt, withdrawn, anxious)
  • A restriction in their freedom; does not have access to a passport or bank account
  • A change in their behaviour, they avoid eye contact or appear frightened
  • Being isolated

Officers from safeguarding, procurement and NHS North East London (NEL) will be in attendance to discuss how we ensure our residents safety while community safety and police Safer Neighbourhood Teams will be helping identify what you can do to keep yourselves safe.

We will be raising awareness of this important issue locally, how you can sport the signs, report anonymously and where to go to find out more, whilst also providing a few small safety.
