97 percent of people pay their Council Tax on time. If you can't pay, find out what happens if you fall behind with your payments.
If you won’t pay, the Council may take you to Court and legal fees may be incurred.
Direct Debit
It is secure and once set up you don’t need to worry about making payments again plus you can choose to pay on the first, fifteenth or twenty first of the month.
You can also amend the bank details or payment date on an existing Direct Debit.

Internet banking or bank transfer
You will need the Council’s bank details which are
- National Westminster Bank plc
- sort code: 62-00-44
- account number: 14871734
- reference: Please quote your Council Tax account number. Failure to do this will mean we will not be able to allocate the payment.
Paying by card
You can pay your Council Tax online with a valid debit card.
Or you can call our express payment line on 0300 456 0630 and enter your card details securely.
Allpay
We no longer promote the use of Allpay cards to pay council tax instalments.
This is because Allpay cards are expensive. Every time you pay with a card, it costs the Council money which could be spent on other services.
Paying by one of the following methods listed below is more cost effective.
- Direct debit
- Online
- Telephone payments
If you are having difficulties in opening a bank account, you can find further details on basic accounts on the GOV.UK website which could help you.
If you cannot pay your council tax by one of the alternative payment methods, a payment card will only be issued in exceptional circumstances.
Please complete our online general enquiry form to explaine your circumstances.
