Havering residents are invited to remember the millions of people killed in genocides across the world at a memorial service.
This year’s Holocaust Memorial Day is 27 January 2022, and Havering’s annual commemorative service will take place on Sunday 23 January 2022 at 2pm in Coronation Gardens, Romford.
Holocaust Memorial Day is the day for everyone to remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust under Nazi Persecution.
It also includes the genocides which followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.
The Holocaust Memorial Day theme this year is One Day – one day that we put aside to come together to remember, to learn more about the past, empathise with others today, and to look to take action for a better future.
Mayor of Havering, Councillor John Mylod, said:
“This ceremony gives us the opportunity to think about those who lost their lives and those who survived, the terrible events of the Holocaust.
“This also includes Anti-Semitism and all other forms of racism, intolerance, bigotry and hatred is of grave concern, which we ignore at our peril.
“It’s important to pause and reflect on the millions of victims of the Holocaust.
"Also, the subsequent genocides and understand that we all have a responsibility to end discrimination and work together for a safer, better, future for everyone.”
