The borough’s most vulnerable families will once again benefit from funding for meals during the half-term break thanks to support from Havering Council.

Applications for Havering’s School Holiday Meal Scheme will open on Monday 31 January 2022 ahead of the half term holiday starting on Monday 14 February 2022.

Funding from the scheme will allow eligible families on a low income to buy food to replace the meals their child would have received during the school day.

The money is part of a continued wider package of support provided through the Government’s Household Support Fund, which has already invested more than £712,000 locally.

The package has provided more than £3.6 million for local people as part of the Havering Helps scheme.

New applicants can apply to the scheme from 9am on Monday 31 January 2022 until 5pm on Friday 4 February 2022.

Parents and carers will need to check they are eligible and apply via the School Holiday Meal Scheme Support page.

Anyone who has already registered and is eligible will automatically receive the funding into their chosen bank account during the week of 14 February.

New claims will also be paid during the week of 14 February 2022.

Councillor Damian White, Leader of Havering Council, said:

“We’re pleased to be able to continue to support the borough’s most vulnerable families through the School Holiday Meal Scheme.

"It will ensure that every eligible child will have a meal during the half-term break.

“It is one of the many packages still available to our community as we continue to recover from the effects of the pandemic.”
