Havering has a new Mayor for 2022/2023 following the Annual Council meeting on Wednesday 25 May.

Councillor Trevor McKeever, ward councillor for Beam Park, saw off competition from Conservative nominee and outgoing Deputy Mayor, Cllr Christine Vickery, winning the position of Mayor by 28 votes to 25.

Councillor McKeever was only elected to Havering Council for the first time at this year’s (2022) local elections and becomes the first Labour Mayor in Havering for over a decade.

Following the vote, the new Mayor nominated his wife Wendy McKeever to be the Mayoress for the year ahead.

Councillor Stephanie Nunn, who represents Elm Park ward, was named Deputy Mayor.

Councillor McKeever, said:

“It is an absolute privilege to have been elected as Mayor of Havering.

"I am really looking forward to beginning my work in the role, and to getting out there and working with the incredible people and organisations that make our borough so special.

“As a former fire fighter, I loved being on-hand to help and support my community.

"As Mayor I look forward to bringing the same passion and commitment to serving the borough – and I will always put the people of Havering first.”

The Mayor’s charities will be announced in due course.
