Havering residents have once again shown their huge support to Havering businesses by voting in their thousands for the finalists in this year’s Small Business Awards.

Sponsored by Havering’s 12 Estates Regeneration Joint Venture Partner, Wates, the Council received over 8,400 public votes during the six-week voting period for the businesses that nominated themselves this year.

It was a change in format to encourage more businesses from across the whole borough to enter.

This final round has now closed (Friday 19 July 2024), and votes are now in the process of being counted.

The three businesses with the most votes in each category will be invited to a celebratory event in September, hosted by media partner Time 107.5 FM’s Mark Dover, when the winners will be revealed.

A special award, ‘The Havering Small Business of the Year Award’, will be chosen from the category winners by a panel of judges including the Council and event sponsors.

Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said:

“Once again, the response to the awards has been really impressive and I want to thank everyone that took the time to vote for their favourite Havering businesses.

“It continues to reflect the significant and positive role that all our businesses play in our borough and the support for them from their customers.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank our event sponsors. Without their support, these awards would not be possible.

“I’m looking forward to congratulating our finalists and winners at the awards event in September.”

Hugh Jeffery, Regional Development Director for Wates, our main sponsor for this year’s awards, said:

“The quality and diversity of small businesses in the community is truly inspiring and it’s fantastic to see the support that they receive.

“At Wates, our commitment to social value means we support initiatives that empower local enterprises, creating a ripple effect of positive impact throughout the community.

“Small businesses, whether suppliers or not, make an invaluable contribution to the work we do as a joint venture.

"They support our innovation, help us to deliver better for the local communities, and provide an essential local touch that enhances our work.

“We look forward to the awards ceremony and cannot wait to celebrate the outstanding achievements of these businesses.”
