Havering Council has announced plans for nine new lifts at a number of sheltered housing schemes to help residents live easier and happier lives.

The Council’s Cabinet agreed to award the contract to install the new lifts at Beehive Court, Ravenscourt Grove and Garrick House at the Cabinet meeting earlier this month (Wednesday 17 July).

It forms the third of three contracts to replace the lifts in Council communal tower blocks, low-rise and sheltered schemes, as part of a £6 million, two year improvement plan.

The work is scheduled to start in October 2024 and is expected to take approximately 10 months.

Councillor Paul McGeary, Cabinet Member for Housing and Property, said:

“I am pleased we have secured the contract for the lift replacement programme to help our elderly residents at Beehive Court, Ravenscourt Grove and Garrick House sheltered schemes.

“The work will be a significant improvement for our tenants and improve access for them to and from the ground floor and the communal areas and follows consultations with the affected residents to help minimise any disruption as much as possible.”
