ge green dedication

Dovers Farm, Rainham, is the fifth and final much-loved green in Havering this summer to be given Village Green status.

Council Leader, Councillor Ray Morgon, Councillor Graham Williamson, and Beam Park Ward Councillors Matthew Stanton and Trevor McKeever, joined local residents as part of the housing engagement fun day to celebrate the formal dedication ceremony, held on Wednesday 14 August 2024.

Village Green status ensures that Dovers Farm, along with Fleet Close, Wennington Green, Hitchin Green, and Gooshays Green, will remain undeveloped in perpetuity, meaning these much-loved green spaces will be protected from development for future generations.

Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said:

“This is the fifth village green we have designated this summer and it is appropriate to end the celebrations here with the green that was so passionately fought for by the local community.

“I am so pleased for the local community that Dovers Farm Green is now protected for all future generations and residents can now rest assured that it is safe from redevelopment.

“This summer of village green dedications has been an opportunity to meet lots of residents who are just as passionate about our much-loved green spaces as we are, and it has been a real pleasure to be part of each of their local celebrations.”

Colin Bloor, has lived close to the green his entire life, and said:

"I've lived here for 62 years and spent most of my childhood on the green.

"I call it our 'little green lung' and want to thank everyone who fought for the green for everyone now, and those who come after us."
