Havering’s Heritage list has been published with 33 new assets added.

This follows two rounds of public consultation and research, the first to agree on the assessment criteria, and the second to recommend heritage assets to be added.

138 nominations were received as part of the public consultation.

After careful consideration, 33 were considered to be of significant historical value to the borough.

Examples of assets that have been added to the list include RAF Hornchurch heritage centre (pictured), Raphael’s Park, Triumphant Church, Romford and Parish Church of St Alban Protomartyr.

A local heritage list identifies local heritage assets that are a distinctive part of our local historic environment, which do not quite meet the criteria for national designation, but are still important to protect.

Councillor Graham Williamson, Cabinet Lead for Regeneration and Development, said:

“The Local Heritage List makes sure that Havering’s heritage assets are recognised and considered in the planning process.

"It also offers a valuable resource for researchers, historians, and anyone interested in exploring our borough's rich history and traditions.

“We dedicate this Local Heritage List in memory of Councillor Linda Hawthorn, following her passing in May 2023.

"We continue to mourn the loss of Linda, whose unwavering dedication to our historic environment and wider public service have profoundly impacted our community and her colleagues.

“She continues to be deeply missed and I know her memory will continue to inspire future generations to pursue a path of dedication to our local heritage, and to have integrity and compassion in service to the public.”
