Green-fingered Havering residents have donned their gardening gloves once again for this years Havering In Bloom competition.
The council received over 60 entries from gardening enthusiasts across the borough.
The quality of entries received this year made judging each category even more difficult than in previous years.
Entries included beautiful, scenic communal gardens, colourful flowerbeds and hanging baskets.
Meanwhile, a 142.8 inches tall sunflower from Mr Eric Willson won the tallest sunflower category by a full 10 inches.
Finalists came together for a special ceremony yesterday (Thursday 19 September 2024) at Havering Town Hall, Romford, hosted by the Mayor of Havering, Councillor Gerry O’Sullivan.
All finalists and winners received certificates, as well as a gift voucher for B&Q, all kindly donated by K&T Heating, Mears, Equans and Marsh Services.
The winners of the 2024 competition are:
- Best Back Garden – Janet Doyle
- Best Front Garden – Paul Highman
- Best Communal Garden – Evelyn Sharp House
- Best Hanging Basket – Ron Nicklin
- Best School Display – Engayne Primary School
- Tallest Sunflower – Eric Willson, 142.8 inches tall.
Councillor Gerry O’Sullivan, Mayor of Havering, said:
“It has been another great year for entries to this brilliant competition, which continues to demonstrate the creativity of Havering residents.
“I have loved seeing each of the entries and think it is wonderful to see so many locals who are willing to step up and do their bit to brighten up the borough, whatever the weather.
