Havering Council has recently approved the award of a ten-year contract to K & T Heating Services Limited, for the annual gas servicing and heating repairs to Council properties.
The decision follows a lengthy and in-depth resident consultation.
The Leader, Cllr Ray Morgon, joined Cllr Paul McGeary, Council Officers and representatives from K&T Heating to view the depot site in Rainham and the new, branded, greener fleet of fully electric and hybrid technology vehicles.
This contract covers the servicing, maintenance and replacement of heating systems, including the integration of low carbon technologies in Council-owned properties.
The decision aligns with the Council's target to achieve net zero carbon by 2040, particularly through the replacement of existing gas heating systems in Council homes.
The contract allows for the inclusion of initiatives such as low carbon air and ground source heat pumps, photovoltaics (solar cells that can convert light to electricity), and building management systems (BMS), providing the Council with flexibility to adapt to evolving technology and carbon reduction policies.
Councillor McGeary, Cabinet Lead for Housing and Property, said:
“The new service offers greater flexibility to our tenants and supports our low carbon target.
“Havering Council aims to provide our tenants with the best repairs and maintenance service in London, and the changes outlined in this contract will help us to achieve this.”
David Greenfield, Managing Director at K&T Heating, said:
“K&T are proud to have been awarded this long term contract with Havering.
“Working alongside a dedicated client team for 10+ years will allow us to invest not only in the contract, but also the local area.
“It will also allow for a smooth transition assisting Havering with their zero carbon by 2040 plan by decarbonising individual and communal properties with low carbon technologies such as air and ground source heat pumps.
“Our commitment to Havering includes a green fleet of fully electric and hybrid vehicles which helps to support Havering’s Air Quality Action Plan.”
