The residents of Farnham, Hilldene and Chippenham Road housing estates in Harold Hill have overwhelmingly voted in favour of the proposed redevelopment plans in the recent estate ballot.
The positive outcome, which 96.3 percent of the 49.8 percent turnout voted in favour for, marks a significant step for the regeneration of the area.
The Council needed a majority vote to support its plans to receive external grant funding from the Greater London Authority in order to proceed with the redevelopment.
The Council distributed its Landlord Offer to estate residents on the third phase of the Harold Hill regeneration in October 2024, explaining the redevelopment of the high street and town centre itself.
It included that all eligible Council tenants will be offered “a new modern home on the rebuilt estate” if they wish to return after being rehomed during the building phase.
This phase proposes more than 450 new 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes for local people, of which at least 40 percent will be affordable, including Social Rent and London Affordable Rent homes.
Councillor Paul McGeary, Cabinet Member for Housing and Property, said:
“The positive vote outcome demonstrates the community’s trust in our vision and their desire for a better living environment.
“This includes the construction of new, modern housing units, improved public spaces, and enhanced community facilities, designed to create a more vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive environment for current and future generations of Havering residents.
“We are committed to continue to work closely with the residents of Farnham, Hilldene and Chippenham Road to create a vibrant, sustainable, safe and inclusive community and are excited to move forward with the redevelopment plans together to build a brighter future for all.”

The estate ballot coincided with the consultation with local residents on Phase 3 of the Farnham and Hilldene, which closes on 13 December 2024.
