As part of the Where We Live campaign, residents are encouraged to help make the borough safer especially during the festive season.
To help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone, the Council’s community safety teams, local licensees, and emergency services are all working together to promote the “Ask for Angela” initiative, a vital safety scheme designed to protect vulnerable individuals in social situations.
What is 'Ask for Angela'?
The Ask for Angela scheme allows anyone feeling unsafe or uncomfortable while out in public to discreetly seek help by simply asking staff for “Angela.”
Once alerted, trained staff at participating venues will provide discreet support, whether it’s helping the individual leave the situation, arranging transportation, or contacting friends or family.
This initiative is especially important during the busy festive season when social interactions can sometimes lead to uncomfortable or unsafe situations.
By raising awareness and empowering staff, the scheme offers an added layer of security for those who need it.
How you can stay safe
Whether you're enjoying a night out at a local pub, bar, or restaurant, remember that the Ask for Angela scheme is available at participating venues in Upminster, Hornchurch, and across the borough.
Keep an eye out for venues displaying the "Ask for Angela" signage, and don’t hesitate to ask for help if you ever feel uneasy.
To learn more about the scheme and its availability, visit the Council’s website or contact your local venues for more details.
Together, we can work to create a safer environment for everyone in Havering. If you're out celebrating this season, remember that safety is always a priority.
Stay aware, stay safe, and let’s love where we live!
