The upcoming Strategic Planning Committee meeting on 23 January 2025 will include presentations and an update on the emerging proposals for Como Street and Angel Way Car Park.

The proposed development of Como Street will see the underused Como Street carpark redeveloped to provide up to 137 new homes set across four buildings and a terrace with four new town houses.

There will also be approximately five units of commercial units at the end of North Street, and large public square designed to create a vibrant and inclusive community.

Angel Way will see the redevelopment of the disused and ageing multi-storey car park in to 105 new homes in the heart of Romford and associated landscaping.

The development will include a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments with buildings ranging from 6-8 storeys

Both sites identified in the local plan and Romford masterplan for residential redevelopment  and their disposal was agreed by Cabinet in August 2023 as part of the Asset Disposal Programme 2022- 2028.

The Strategic Planning Committee will review and provide feedback on the emerging plans which will be submitted later this year.

Stakeholders and community members have been consulted on plans on both sites to ensure projects meets the needs and expectations of the community.

In December last year, it was announced that the proposed maximum heights of the new development at Como Street were being revised following feedback from residents.

Councillor Graham Williamson, Cabinet Lead for Development and Regeneration, said:

“Taking the proposed developments to Strategic Planning Committee marks another vital milestone for these projects, and for Romford.

“We continue to work closely with developers, Mercury Land Holdings, to ensure that the plans are delivering much-needed housing and community amenities within the town centre housing zone.

“Honouring our election promise to not allow overdevelopment whilst balancing the need for homes for local people remains a top priority for our Administration.”
