A Havering business has been prosecuted and fined a total of £2,675.66, for failing to remove waste and graffiti from their land.

Ghai Properties LTD, a Romford landowner but registered as a business in Middlesex, had failed to comply with warning notices issued by Havering Council instructing them to remove the waste and graffiti from land in South Street.

The Council then followed this up with a CPN - Community Protection Notice - under the ASB Crime and Policing Act 2014.

As a result of this action and the business not complying, the Council were able to use powers to enter private land and carry out works to remove the waste and graffiti.

An invoice for these works was also ignored by the business so it was added to the prosecution costs.

No one from the business exercised their right to appeal the notices and the case was taken to the magistrate’s court, where representatives from the business put in a guilty plea.

Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said:

“We hope this sends out a message to all businesses, that as well as residents, they too have a duty to ensure they get rid of waste legally and responsibly.

"They also need to make sure their land and area around their business is maintained.

“It can often be a complex situation if the land is privately owned.

" Yet, that will not deter us in bringing the strongest action against those who think it is ok to litter, fly-tip and fail to respond to legal notices.

“Littering and fly-tipping leads to anti-social behaviour and damage to the environment.

"Through our Where We Live campaign, we are looking for residents and businesses to join us to work together to have pride in our borough.”
