Havering Council has launched its new Keep It Local campaign, aimed at encouraging residents to support local businesses and strengthen the borough's economy.

The campaign calls on residents to prioritise shopping, dining, and using businesses and services within the borough and its high streets.

Keep It Local emphasises the importance and benefits of choosing Havering's diverse range of businesses over travelling outside the borough.

The campaign also promotes the use of local tradespeople and encourages local businesses to source their supplies from fellow Havering suppliers, creating a robust and interconnected local economy.

Key benefits of “keeping it local"

  • Boosting the Local Economy - By spending money locally, residents directly contribute to the growth and prosperity of Havering's businesses, ensuring their continued success and vitality
  • Creating Local Jobs - Supporting local businesses leads to increased job opportunities for Havering residents, fostering a stronger and more resilient community
  • Reducing Environmental Impact - Shopping locally reduces the need for long-distance travel, minimising carbon emissions and contributing to a greener environment and cleaner air for everyone
  • Strengthening Community Spirit - Keep It Local helps strengthen community pride and connection, encouraging residents to support and celebrate the unique character of Havering's local businesses
  • Support Local Suppliers - Businesses are also encouraged to use other local businesses as suppliers, creating a circular economy within Havering.

Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said:

“We are incredibly proud of the vibrant and diverse businesses that make Havering such a unique place to live and work.

“Keep It Local is about recognising the vital role these businesses play in our community and empowering residents to make a positive impact on our local economy and environment.”

Cllr Morgon was recently joined by Councillor Graham Williamson, Cabinet Member for Development and Regeneration, at The Pink Parachute pottery café in Hornchurch, where they spoke to patrons about the campaign and the importance of spending money locally to support businesses.

The Council is holding a Business Showcase event at Havering Town Hall in Romford on Thursday 20 March 2025.

The event will feature businesses from across the borough demonstrating the wide range that Havering’s high streets and economy has to offer.

The Business Showcase is open to members of the public, who are encouraged to stop by throughout the day.

The Council is asking for residents and businesses to take part by sharing their Keep It Local stories as case studies. If you would like to feature your business, please email advertising@havering.gov.uk
