Havering Council’s Strategic Planning Committee has officially approved the development of the Albert Road project last week (Thursday 13 March 2025).

It marks a significant milestone in the development plans, which form part of the Council’s Asset Disposal Strategy 2022-2028

The proposed redevelopment of the site will include nine energy-efficient family homes, designed to meet the needs of local families with 8 three bedroom houses and 1 two bedroom house.

The plans will protect the historic core of the building, which is on the Council’s Local Heritage List, and was erected in the 1800s.

It includes retaining and refurbishing the main building with partial demolition to create four houses, and a further five new houses to the rear of the property.

It also includes preservation of the 1883 school dedication plaque.

Councillor Graham Williamson, Cabinet Member for Development and Regeneration, said:

“I’m pleased the Strategic Planning Committee approved these plans to create new family homes – houses no less - to help meet the housing needs of our residents, whilst remaining sympathetic to the heritage of the building.”

Construction is anticipated to begin by the end of 2025.
