Havering Council has for the first time created much needed space for housing by converting a loft into a comfortable living space.

The project reflects the Council’s ongoing efforts to address the pressing need for social housing within the borough and forms part of the strategic plan to maximise existing properties to create additional housing opportunities.

The loft conversion has transformed a previously underutilised space into a modern, comfortable home, providing much-needed accommodation for a Havering tenant.

Councillor Paul McGeary, Cabinet Member for Housing Property and Harold Hill ward councillor, said:

“We are dedicated to creating sustainable and affordable housing options for our residents, and this project is a prime example of how we can achieve that goal.

“This conversion adds valuable space to help repurpose a hard-to-rent property into a more desirable and fit for purpose living space for a Havering resident.

“This project complements Havering Council’s broader strategy to increase social housing availability and this is one example that uses a resourceful approach.”

The Council’s planned works team continue to research future project opportunities for similar conversions and 2 bed developments.

This follows the planning submission last month for 18 temporary modular homes at the Waterloo and Queen Street site in Romford, as another innovative example of how the Council are planning to provide homeless Havering families more suitable and stable accommodation.
