Beam Parkway Consultation
Have your say in the consultation

Residents are encouraged to have their say on proposals to transform New Road (A1306) in South Hornchurch.

A public consultation and exhibition is taking place over the next few weeks as Havering Council look to enhance New Road into a greener and more pleasant place, which will allow local residents and visitors to walk and cycle safely in the area.

The Council is looking at transforming the area and improving safety, having secured £4.5m of funding from the Mayor of London and £1.8m from Transport for London for the project.

A series of consultation events for residents to attend and look over the proposals as well as ask questions, will take place at the following locations:

  • Mardyke Centre, South Street, Rainham  – Tuesday 3 July – 5.30-8.30pm
  • South Hornchurch Library, Rainham Road – Thursday 5 July – 2-5pm
  • South Hornchurch Library, Rainham Road – Saturday 7 July – 10am-1pm

Residents can also find out more about the scheme and submit their views online, by visiting www.havering.gov.uk/beamparkway , and also present their views by post to Lauren Gee, Beam Parkway Consultation, Town Hall, Main Road, Romford, RM1 3BB. Our survey will be open until Sunday 22 July.

Whilst the Beam Parkway scheme is part of the Rainham and Beam Park Housing Zone, it is separate to housing developments in the area. Nevertheless, Beam Parkway will complement them and transform the road that runs through them, improving the environment for people already living in the area as well as for new residents.

While New Road is currently a single carriageway east of Cherry Tree Lane, to the west of the junction it is a dual carriageway and is often subject to road safety issues.
The plans would introduce new parks and landscaping along the length of the New Road, with easier access to the historic Rainham Village and Beam Reach Country Park.

Councillor Osman Dervish, Havering Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, said:

“I encourage everyone to have a look at these exciting plans for regenerating this part of Rainham and South Hornchurch and to pass on your views which are important to us.

“There is a now a greater awareness of the impact that transport has on well-being and so we encourage people to walk, cycle and use public transport where possible to improve health and reduce air pollution.

“This scheme will greatly support that ambition as well as enhance the area for residents for years to come.”
