Action against knife crime in the borough

Councillor Viddy Persaud, Cabinet Member for Public Protection & Safety, Havering Council, joined Havering BCU Commander Superintendent John Ross today (18 September) at Romford Police Station.

A special bin has been placed at the front office of the station, in Main Road, Romford, where knives can be surrendered and binned anonymously by the public.

Cllr Viddy Persaud, Cabinet Member for Public Protection and Safety, said: “The consequences of carrying a knife are devastating – lives are lost and the effects on everybody will last forever.

“That is why Havering Council is supporting the Metropolitan Police’s Save a Life, Surrender your Knife campaign. We want Havering to be a safe borough and we can all play our part in making that happen.

“Every time a knife is brought to Romford Police Station, it can be binned quickly and anonymously and the reality is, for each knife brought in, more lives are saved.”
