council campaign support
Cllr Damian White, Leader of Havering Council & Cllr Osman Dervish, Havering's Cabinet member for Environment, joined staff at The Bunno Restaurant, Romford, as part of the Cleaner Havering campaign

Local businesses are showing their support for the Council’s Cleaner Havering campaign, with posters urging residents not to drop chewing gum

The "Stick it in the bin" posters are being displayed by shops, restaurants and other businesses on South Street, Romford.

It follows the Council’s extensive programme of cleaning works in South Street, which has seen chewing gum and grime blasted from pavements. The works took place overnight across five nights a week during the last month and also saw intensive cleaning of street benches.

Councillor Damian White, Leader of Havering Council and Councillor Osman Dervish, met with management and staff from Bunno Restaurant last week.

They are just one of many businesses displaying posters in their windows backing the campaign to help create a cleaner borough.

Councillor White said: "We are extremely pleased to have our local businesses supporting our Cleaner Havering campaign.

"We also need residents and visitors to the borough to help us too – Our message is simple, - Don’t drop your chewing gum, stick it in the bin.

"We are investing £400,000 to increase the frequency of residential street cleaning and a programme to deep clean South Street to rid the pavements of chewing gum, has just been completed.

"We need everyone to work with us and together we can enjoy a cleaner borough."

Lucy, manager of The Bunno, said: "As a local business, we want our customers to come here to eat and also enjoy their surroundings; we are very much in support of the Council’s Cleaner Havering campaign."
