Protecting the most vulnerable residents and ensuring premises have the correct measures in place, are part of a consultation Havering Council is holding following the release of the government’s new Gambling Policy 2019-22.
The consultation, which runs until Monday 25 November, is asking residents if they agree that the requirements of the policy enable the Council to do the following:
- Help to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour
- Ensure gambling is conducted fairly and open
- Help to protect children and vulnerable adults from being exploited by gambling.
Under the Gambling Act 2005, the Council is required to review its policy every three years.
Councillor Viddy Persaud, Havering’s Cabinet Member for Public Protection and Safety, said:
“The policy gives us the opportunity to make sure we can do everything we can to protect our residents, help to prevent underage gambling and check that those premises where gambling occurs, have the correct measures in place.”
