It was a stellar week for apprentices in Havering recently as young people and employers celebrated their contribution to the borough.
National Apprenticeship Week kicked off with a Council-run awards ceremony at Havering Town Hall. The awards recognised the work of the apprentices, their dedication to their role and those who had gone above and beyond in their role.
A Dragon’s Den event gave around 300 school pupils the chance to decide which employers they would potentially be interested in working for, as they listened to “dragons” pitch their businesses to them at the Premiere Cinema in Romford.
There was also a pop up shop in the Mercury Shopping Centre, which gave young people and adult visitors an opportunity to find out about the apprenticeships available to them locally. Both events were sponsored by Wates Residential, Havering’s joint venture partner on the borough’s biggest regeneration project.
Meanwhile a parent-learner event at Marshalls Park Academy attracted more than 500 pupils and parents, who had the opportunity to meet training providers, apprenticeship ambassadors and local employers to discuss the young person’s next career step.
Councillor Robert Benham, Havering’s Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Families, said:
“Apprenticeship Week provided the perfect opportunity to showcase some of the great opportunities available to young people and what they can aspire to be, from working in business to running your own business.
“Apprenticeships are open to everyone and are no longer restricted to your age, which has meant that anyone of any age can still fulfil their potential in a range of jobs, while gaining a professional qualification.”
