Collections of bulky waste will restart across Havering from Monday 1 June 2020, with residents able to book from today, Thursday 28 May 2020.
The service was suspended as Havering Council and contractors SERCO took the difficult decision to prioritise the weekly waste and recycling collections whilst dealing with staff shortages and an increase in the volume of waste, around the Covid 19 pandemic.
The bulky waste service collects large items such as furniture and white goods eg fridges or washing machines for a fee.
Collections are carried out five days a week and residents can call or book online for the collection of these and other items that they can’t put in their usual rubbish and recycling bags.
Those residents who are currently on the NHS shielding list will be offered a free service throughout the shielding period – at least until the end of June 2020.
Councillor Damian White, Leader of Havering Council, said:
“I’m really pleased to announce our Council is now bringing back the bulky waste collection service from 1 June.
“This follows the return of the garden waste collections at the end of April and the reopening of Gerpins Lane reuse and recycling centre earlier in May.
“To help people that are part of the NHS shielding group and unable to go out of their homes, our Council will now be offering them a free service. This is just one of the ways that we are trying to support everyone across our communities.
“I would like to thank all the staff involved within the waste collection service, they have made lockdown possible. Thank you on behalf of the borough.”
