Havering Council is continuing to help the borough’s most vulnerable as more residents are added to the Government’s shielding list.
Last week the NHS extended the list of people considered vulnerable enough to need to shield, with the Council ensuring that support is available to these new Clinically Extremely Vulnerable (CEV) residents.
The announcement follows a Covid 19 population risk assessment that the NHS conducted with Oxford University.
The list now includes many people who may not have been asked to stay at home previously.
The main purpose of extending the list is to ensure that people with conditions now considered to make people more vulnerable to Covid 19 are prioritised for vaccination.
Anyone recently added to the Clinically Extremely Vulnerable (CEV) list should shield at home until 31 March.
Back in March 2020, Havering Council launched ‘Havering Helps’ which is a package of financial measures worth nearly £4.5m to support residents, businesses and care providers in the borough through the pandemic.
The Council is making sure that this support remains in place to help residents that need it, and to continue to offer the support through the Covid 19 hotline.
If you have received a letter telling you to shield, please read it carefully.
It contains useful sources of support that explain how you can register for priority shopping deliveries, access support with prescriptions and help with money if you are unable to go to work.
Councillor Damian White, Leader of Havering Council, said:
“Throughout this pandemic the Council has done all it can to support our most vulnerable residents and we will continue to do this until we have seen the back of Covid 19 in Havering.
“It is great to see the number of cases falling quickly – but we can’t be complacent.
"The potential impact of Covid19 for these newly-identified Clinically Extremely Vulnerable Havering residents is very real.
"It’s vital for these residents to take this new guidance from the NHS seriously and stay at home.
"But, please know you are not alone.
"Whether it be getting help with food, medicines or emotional support - the Council is here to help."
