Apply for a disabled parking bay/space
The criteria for providing a disabled person's parking bay are:
- that no off-street parking can be provided
- that an applicant should have a very severe 'walking disability', ie a permanent and substantial disability which means they are unable to walk or have very considerable difficulty in walking
- the householder concerned should normally own and drive a vehicle.
If off-street parking is available ie a garage attached to the house or the front garden is big enough to park a vehicle on, then a disabled parking bay on the highway would be refused.
How to apply
If you feel you meet the criteria and wish to proceed with your request please contact complete our ask adult social care online form or call 01708 432000 to arrange an appointment to see an Occupational Therapist for assessment.
If you are eligible
If you are eligible for a disabled person's parking bay on the carriageway, a Traffic Regulation Order must be publicly advertised. Any objections received must be properly considered before the bay can be installed.
A disabled person's parking bay can legally be used by any vehicle displaying a blue disabled badge and cannot be reserved for a specific person or vehicle.
