The Council's vision is for residents to live long and healthy lives, and have access to the best possible health and care services.
We have identified the most pressing health and social care issues in the borough and, by working collectively as a strategic partnership, we will prioritise the actions we need to take to deliver improved outcomes for local people. These are set out clearly in the Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
Health and wellbeing priorities
The Health and Wellbeing Strategy focuses on three overarching themes and eight priorities for action.
Prevention, keeping people healthy, early identification and improving wellbeing
- Early help for vulnerable people to live independently for longer
- Improved identification and support for people with dementia
- Earlier detection of cancer
- Tackling obesity
Integrated support for people most at risk
- Better integrated care for the ‘frail elderly’ population
- Better integrated care for vulnerable children
- Reducing avoidable hospital admissions
Quality of services and patient experience
- Improving the quality of services to ensure that patient experience and long-term health outcomes are the best they can be
The joint strategic needs assessment
The Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) is the process through which the health and wellbeing needs of a population are examined, which supports commissioners in agreeing local commissioning priorities that will improve health and wellbeing outcomes and reduce inequalities.
In 2008, the JSNA looked at a range of data about the health and wellbeing of people in Havering and aimed to establish a baseline understanding of the health of local people. This was updated in 2010, which also included additional data and recommendations for local decision makers and commissioners.
Additional chapters have been added to the 2010 JSNA, which can be viewed on the Havering Data Hub.
A range of other resources and information also help us to understand more about the health and wellbeing of local people. Such resources can be found in the Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
