About us

We are currently open 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Based in central Romford, near The Brewery we are a service that offers a vast range of meaningful activities and support to maximise quality of life.

We have trained care staff to support service users that require assistance with personal care, mobility and community engagement.

We are committed to supporting people to have greater choice in how they wish to spend their day and achieve their goals.

In addition to this we have several volunteers that run different groups within the day service.

Service users are encouraged to have an active part in the running of the service and as a person living with a disability your views and opinions are invaluable to the development of the service.

For people with an assessed need for day opportunities and transport, we are able to offer an escort and transport to collect people from their home and bring them to the centre and take them back home at the end of the day.

Whilst at the centre you will be allocated a trained member of staff that will work with you on a day opportunities plan that will help you to identify what you would like to achieve whilst you are using the service.

All avenues will be explored to ensure that people are enabled to access the wider community and to be as independent of possible.

Facilities

The day service toilet facilities are all ground floor and have level assess and fully equipped with ceiling mounted hoists and grab rails and Closomat toilets to allow people to have the choice of dealing with their own personal care needs.

These toilets can wash and dry the person with just a push of a button.

The toilets are fully equality act compliant and are equipped with full changing bed facilities

Our training kitchen is equipped with a fully height adjustable hob and sink to allow wheelchair users to be able to work safely whilst supervised.

Our games room is equipped with table tennis, snooker, a 50 inch 3D TV, x-box and Nintendo wii with wii sports and other physically engaging games.

We have three state of the art computers and colour printers for you to use at your leisure.

IT training can be arranged.

Our art room is equipped with a potters wheel and a vast range of art and craft materials.

Meals and shopping

There are several ways in which you can order your meals at Yew Tree Day Service.

On most days a group of up to five service users and staff will work in the kitchen to prepare meals for people in the building.

The kitchen is registered with the food standards agency and subject to food standards. Food hygiene training can be given.

In house meals can be ordered in the morning to your own specification and dietary needs.

Alternatively we can order meals in from local food outlets, some people may like to go out in to Romford for lunch.

All efforts will be made to ensure that people are give as much choice as possible.

Service users will be encouraged to be involved in purchasing provisions for the kitchen and sweet shop. Part of this will involve budgeting and financial accountancy.

Training can be given to people who wish to be involved in the financial records for shop and fundraising projects.
