Designated teachers

Havering Virtual School will work directly with schools, colleges and designated teachers to offer a holistic support for each Havering CIC in the education provision.

The designated teacher should be a central point of contact within the school.

This helps to make sure that the school plays its role to the full in making sure arrangements are joined up and minimise any disruption to a child’s learning.

Designated teachers should take lead responsibility for ensuring school staff understand the things which can affect how looked-after and previously looked after children learn and achieve and how the whole school supports the educational achievement of these pupils.

Designated teachers, facilitate and chair termly PEP meetings for the CIC. Promote outcomes and raise aspirations by advocating needs, setting SMART targets and ensuring the relevant intervention is in place to promote progression.

Havering Virtual School runs the Designated Teacher Forum twice in the academic year, to be able to share ideas and continued training in key areas of support.

To access the forums, all designated teachers will need to register on the ePEP system.
